One of the virtues of downstate Illinois is that car insurance is
very reasonable. With 100K liability and $100 deductible collision
I pay about $250 a year. Like a previous respondent, however, I'm
reluctant to make a claim on the policy lest I spend the rest of my
life paying it back in higher premiums.

Everyone I know who has had a major accident has had it with an
uninsured driver. We really need compulsory insurance.

One factor in insurance rate rises has been the rise in the cost of
cars. It costs more to replace a $12000 car than the $5000 car you had
ten years ago.

I'd trade my low rates for some hills, though. I'm sick of corn
fields.
