Knowing that we would need a second mode of transportation, and feeling wealthy after graduating from college and having a JOB, we got a brand new Trans Am. We were ages 20 and 21 at the time, and neither one of us had any violations on record. Insurance for the truck (minimum coverage) and the TA (more than minimum) was $500/yr. After we divorced (and sold the TA - sniff), I bought a little AMC Spirit. At age 22 and with 2 speeding tickets (cops like to stop TAs and Camaros and the like doing 2 mph over), I was quoted $650/yr for minimum coverage, which to me was terribly expensive. I solved the problem by having my boyfriend, whom I was living with, add me to his insurance at a cost of $370. Hardly seems fair that 2 youngsters fresh from years of partying, er, I mean studying, at school can insure a nice car and a junker for less than a single woman can insure a small car. If a company told me that insurance would cost >$1K, I'd tell them where to shove it and start riding a bike, where I'd probably be more of a menace to the road. But, after all, is life fair?
