C. Berkeley Computer Science Lines: 36 I am a born and bred Californian from the Bay Area, and I have a refutation for Mr. Citrin (ucbvax!citrin). 1) We used to have Ice Hockey here. It was sold off due to lack of interest. How many others out there remember the Seals? I have faint memory of having attended one of their games, a long time ago. I have no memory of their ever winning the Stanley Cup. 2) The San Francisco Chronicle may not be the best paper in the nation (ask anyone!), but at least it has a sense of humor. What fun is a paper with no comics? (BTW, I read the Times on Sundays) 3) You want Extremes of weather? Well, it gets plenty hot around here and if you like Snow, Berkeley is only 4 hours away from Lake Tahoe. (Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that we have real snow out here. In it's proper place [away from where one lives], and it is skiiable {unlike Eastern Boiler Plate}) Fog? Rain? We have those too. 4) Poltical Correctness. This, as you surmised, is more a feature of Berkeley than it is the rest of California. Where, after all, does Ronald Reagan make his home? Certainly he doesn't live here because of politics that don't agree with his own! If you'd like to see this attitude taken to extreme, visit Eschleman Hall (The Seat of the UCB Student Government) for a day or two. Now, Los Angeles... That's a different matter, but in a different flame. somewhat serious, somewhat tongue in cheek, but I'll never tell which, Erik E. Fair ucbvax!fair fair@ucb-arpa.ARPA
