However, after just returning from a week in Boston, I must say that Boston drivers definitely are amongst the very worst. First of all, in how many cities do the populace generally drive in excess 80 miles an hour on the expressways in the city? I was attempting to go with the flow of traffic in many circumstances at about 70 mph (to go slower was dangerous in that crowd) and I had people tailgating me and acting obnoxious because I was going too slow for them! Amazing! Then on the night that I had to drive my rental car back to the airport and catch my flight, I ran into an incredible traffic jam on I-93. It took me nearly an hour to go about a mile. At no time did I see any reason why the traffic was so backed up. However, what I did see was other drivers zooming along in the breakdown lanes and butting into the mass farther on up the road, and at least 30 or 40 instances of cars and TRUCKS *BACKING* down access ramps to get off of the expressway!!!! This included at least two tractor-trailer cabs (without trailers, thank god) which nearly caused accidents with incoming cars. There were so many other examples of stupid, discourteous, dangerous driving that I am still amazed that I didn't see more accidents. Just how many boxtops does it take to get a license in MA anyhow? And does anyone ever get stopped for violating traffic laws? What are MA insurance rates like? -- Gene Spafford School of ICS, Georgia Tech, Atlanta GA CSNet: Spaf @ GATech ARPA: Spaf.GATech @ UDel-Relay uucp: ...!{akgua,allegra,rlgvax,sb1,unmvax,ut-ngp,ut-sally}!gatech!spaf
