I've driven in both cities more than twice and would much rather drive in Boston. Boston drivers are, it's true, crazy, reckless, fast, fearless, but most importantly, they ARE AWARE OF OTHER CARS! Sure, people zoom along and scare the daylights out of sensible people and are not in the least polite but they know where you are and generally try to avoid you. I can't say I emulate that style of driving but I sure appreciate people who watch incoming ramps on freeways and get into the other lane more than I do these idiots around Atlanta. Atlanta drivers are generally polite and drive at reasonable speeds. But they don't pay any attention to what they're doing!! They don't look for traffic before changing lanes (let alone use a signal!). They drive in the right lane all alone on the freeway no matter who's coming down the ramp. They drive REAL slow in the left lane and REAL fast in the right. In general I'd much prefer aware madmen than sleepy sanemen. The only advantage is that there is a much lower density of cars (and people) in the south than elsewhere. Of course the traffic lights here are an even worse story... -- Jeff Offutt School of ICS, Georgia Tech, Atlanta GA CSNet: Ofut @ GATech ARPA: Ofut.GATech @ UDel-Relay uucp: ...!{akgua,allegra,rlgvax,sb1,unmvax,ut-ngp,ut-sally}!gatech!ofut
