      I saw the first signs of Christmas on Oct. 1st this year.  
      Caldors, a local department store, had set up their tree
      trimming department.

      By October 15th, most of the other stores around here had
      done the same or put up wreaths or whatever.

      Strangely, my good will towards men did not noticeably increase.
