A brief digression from this weighty discussion, inspired by the
a previous responder's aside:

Does anyone have pointers to studies of color preferences?  My
impression is that color preferences do not appear in the population
with anything like random distribution. I wonder if there's a
physiological reason for this or some strange cultural pressure.
