When I worked in a sporting goods store, which sold firearms, I was astounded by the number of people that wanted a .25 ACP pistol for personal protection. I guess most people thought they could put them in their pockets or purses; a tactic which is frowned on by the police in all states. There is only one problem. If you ever DO have to shoot at someone, a 1.5 inch sight plane won't help. Plus any police department, including INTERPOL, recomends nothing smaller than .38 cal. (We also had a woman buy a .22 mag deringer and when she stuck it into her pants, she put a bullet just past her personal regions and had to be treated for powder burns) Even the folks that bought a big weapon showed no inclination to practice with it. (If you don't like guns, you can see that this is foolish with any defensive device. Including the teargas canisters people put on key chains.) This is not a pro-guns letter. It is not an anti-guns letter. It is a pro-common sense letter. David Swank II University of Oklahoma
