The fact of the matter is , the SAD fact of the matter is that handgun regulation as presently proposed and/or practiced today won't stop anyone from getting a gun if they really want one. Laura's comment that she knew five people that could get her a gun is the rule, not the exception. I don't want one for reasons of my own but if I did I think I could have one by tomorrow noon at the latest. Let's face it folks, guns aren't the problem but a manifestation of the problem. Some of us are pretty violent people, and handguns only make it easier for us to be violent. I would agree with anyone who says guns make it EXTREMELY easy to kill someone. I would like to see guns and ALL weapons of detached destruction disappear from this planet. But I don't think handgun regulation in any form now proposed or soon to be proposed will make any significant dent in the problem. I don't have any answers either. So if you're looking for an alternate proposal, sorry. I thought at one time that it would be nice if anyone even caught with a handgun should be summarily executed on the spot ( no due process, of course). But that would make it easy for a policeman with a grudge (and a throwaway piece) to get rid of anyone he wanted to. BTW, I heard that a man was suing the village of Morton Grove for their anti-handgun regulation because he said it made the whole community a sitting duck for criminals (burglars, armed robbers, etc.). As part of his brief, he cited statistics showing an increase in crime since the ordinance was passed. Anyone else know anything about this? Also BTW, the police and council members were exempted from the ordinance. The police I understand but why the council members? That's all I'll say unless we can get some new ideas on the subject, realistic or otherwise. Peace ------ Bill Adams ihnp4!ihuxr!esac -- Bill Adams ihnp4!ihuxr!esac
