Years ago, my family was exposed to this shit in some small degree. One of the companies (I don't remember who) wanted to come out to the house, but only when it was guaranteed that at least the wife would be home. It seems that they have a little statistic: women tend to spend more "discretionery income" than men. I found this to be true with my ex-step-mother, anyway. (She was an extreme case: thought that charging wasn't really like spending money.) I'm not saying this to be sexist, it's just a statistical fact.
