(in whose LIFETIME???) Message-ID: <693@pegasus.UUCP> Date: Fri, 28-Oct-83 18:25:38 EST Article-I.D.: pegasus.693 Posted: Fri Oct 28 18:25:38 1983 Date-Received: Thu, 3-Nov-83 02:29:12 EST References: <738@ihuxr.UUCP> Organization: AT&T Information Systems, Lincroft NJ Lines: 20 Don Stanwyck (ihuxr!stanwyck) asks about a "lifetime" subscription to magazines that I never heard of -- and wants to know if it is for real. Based on my reading of the letter, it sounds like a scam. To start with, they never said that Don was UNIQUELY selected, just that he WAS selected. I am sure thousands of others were similarly selected. In addition, the letter never mentioned WHOSE lifetime they were talking about. I assume the LIFETIME of the magazine. They do say that lifetime subscriptions last for "the rest of your life", but are they weeklies or monthlies? Perhaps only once per decade, with 2 pages of advertisements. Maybe all you will get is one copy (used) of LIFE, and one of TIME. I notice that they never say that their magazine is worth $500, just that OTHER magazines charge that much! I assume you get exactly 1 copy once. As supporting evidence, I present the following quote: "But this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is available only ..." As James Bond once said: "Once is not enough". -- -=> Avi E. Gross @ AT&T Information Systems Laboratories (201) 576-6241 suggested paths: [ihnp4, allegra, cbosg, hogpc, ...]!pegasus!avi
