   Having played in several backgammon tournaments, I can state for sure that 
a gammon is worth double and a backgammon triple. The only way to get more than
triple is to use the doubling cube. 
   Another interesting bit of trivia: Although it is not possible to get a 
gammon after your opponent has borne off one or more pieces, you can still
get a backgammon if you can catch him on the bar or in your home court when you
finish bearing all your pieces off, even if he has already borne some pieces
off.
