One person asked about the hit dice of monsters which are listed as having a fixed number of hit points; another asked about spell casting during melee. Both questions are answered in clearly labeled sections of the Dungeon Masters' Guide. The answer to the first is that you divide the fixed hit points by 4.5, so that you assume that the monster had exactly average hit dice. The answer to the second depends on the situation, but there are procedures for resolving the exact order of actions when it becomes necessary. In general, the spell will be blown only if you take hit points of damage during the casting period, or voluntarily interrupt the spell (for instance, to make a saving throw or put up a psi defense). It is hard for me to believe that anyone would try to run AD&D without having read the entire DMG. It isn't THAT long.... ________________________________________________ Tim Maroney duke!unc!tim (USENET), tim.unc@udel-relay (ARPA) The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
