You got it! If you materialize in rock you might as well quit.
The '&' means you walked through a doorway in the vaporous 
state so it is telling you there is a door there (even if
you discovered it in a sneaky way). When you re-materialize
you can just go through it (like you had a find trap ring on).

My strategy is to quickly look around through rocks, etc.
