Volunteer flight examiners are not required to charge for their
time.  I paid $15 to the examiner for my private license; but
I got a lesson out of it as well.  You take your pick; you pay
taxes and somehow pay all money to all these diddling little
services; or you pay for what you use.  Anytime you can replace
so-called "free" government services with pay-on-demand private
equivalents, I'm going to think a long time before criticizing.
