This group will have three valuable aspects: 1 - It will support flames of UNLIMITED length 2 - It will have NO associated telephone costs 3 - No-one will actually be subjected to the mindless wanderings of the participants. The group, for which I propose the name "net.dev.null", will NOT be carried on the network. Rather, a modification to inews will send all submitted articles to /dev/null. Those who desire may direct their flames directly into the bit bucket, instead of waiting for a their article to reach all news sites, where it will eventually come to the same end. The group will bring may benefits. People will have a willing "ear" that they can bend as much as they want. They will be able to post confessions, stupid jokes (the ones that start "my autistic pet gerbil thought this was funny..." or that end "Sorry about that..."), or even unencrypted obscenities! Remember how people loved to talk to ELIZA? No longer will we all have to read "flames to /dev/null" or "replies to /dev/null" or any or the thousands of variations on that theme that get stuck on the end of news submissions. Now, those people can simply BEGIN their discussions on net.dev.null, and they will be ASSURED that no-one will reply! This group may even ease the traffic on net.flame, net.misc, net.followup, net.politics, net.philosophy, net.religion, ... thus reducing the cost of news. Don't delay!
