This was told to me by my father, who runs an optical company in Toronto:
A delegation from the Chinese National Optical Laboratory (or some such
organization) was touring my father's company. While they were in the 
glass shop, they stopped to talk to Harry, one of the machinists.
While they could understand English with varying degrees of fluency,
they obviously were having trouble with Harry's Scottish accent.
Finally, one of the delegation asked Harry how long he had been in Canada.
When he told them it had been 25 years, one of them replied:

"well, you speak English very well".
