One that a CDC Cobol compiler sometimes generates:

	Compiler lost place, attempting recovery.

There after it would invariably repeat the same message for almost every line
of code and, in effect, never find its place again.

Also, once seen at Purdue on a Fortran compiler:

	There is an error somewhere between "START" and the end of the
	program.

(START is the default name given to the main program if none was chosen)
