I like the example from XDS Fortran Language Ref manual on common statements:
	COMMON MARKET, SENSE/GROUP3/X,Y,JUMP//GHIA, COLD
I even hear tell that the internals of the compiler have interesting 
stories.   The interface to the monitor was called "MERRIMAC".
