The USR supports a useful SUBSET of the hayes commands. However, from the literal minded veiwpoint of a computer, they behave quite differently: a) The USR has no "independent" command mode. Getting back to Command mode hangs up the phone, no ifs, ands, or buts. b) Commands are responded to differently. What caused problems here was that the HAYES responds "OK" to a reset command, and not at all to a null command ("AT"), and the USR does exactly the oposite. c) The USR comes up in a mode where command characters are NOT echoed. this is also oposite the hayes. There are some other more minor differeces, that are less important. Yeah, its probably worth the money, Make sure your "hayes" compatible software really works with it, or be prepared to modify same.... BillW
