Actually, both Bakshi and the Levi's commercials were latecomers -- the
process is called "rotoscope" and has been used for years -- for example
Mowgli in "The Jungle Book" was (at least often) rotoscoped from a real live
kid.

Maybe it's cheating, maybe it's just a different process: I've never been
able to decide.
