   2001 was not cut after its initial release.  It was, however, trimmed
   of about 12 minutes by Kubrick himself, "tightened" I believe the the
   word is, after initial press screenings, but before the picture hit
   any theaters.  Kubrick claims that this was not due to studio pressure
   and cut nothing of importance from the film, and since he had final
   cut approval, I believe him.
