Shirleys husband in "Being there" was NOT a senator, but rather the head of
a  large  multinational  economic  organization.   That is what made him
important.  If you have not read the book by Jerzy Kosinski, do your self a
favor and READ IT.  It is very well done, and shows you some of the things
that Kosinski wanted you to know about Chancy Gardner.
