  A recent book on this topic is-
                 ABUSING SCIENCE
          The Case Against Creationism
                  Philip Kitcher
                  MIT Press  1982  (ISBN 0-262-11085-7)

  It is written (in my opinion) from the point of view of a
philosopher/historian of science.  It particularly discusses the
question of what are the criteria of SCIENCE.  It is very readable,
and should be accessible even to non-biologist readers.  I would
recommend it highly to anyone who was interested in the recent
discussion in this newsgroup.
