Astrophysics Lines: 12 The USA gave the cold shoulder to Bishop because we didn't like his politics. The "powers that be" are much more interested in exploitable markets/resources than in democracy, so a democratic but leftist government does them no good. I support the invasion of Grenada (tentatively) on the facts now available about the military situation, but I deplore the policy of forcing any leftist government into the Cuban/Soviet camp that brought the situation about in the first place. If WE had offered to build the airfield, instead of pretending Bishop wasn't a legitimate head of state, we would have saved alot of lives, and most probably alot of money too.
