 The book is "The Man Who Folded Himself", by David Gerrold.  It's a good piece
of work, too, which explores some logical consequences of the old "time 
traveller meets himself" theme.  For example, if there can be two of you in the
room at once, then why not ten?  So why not have a permanent drop-in poker
game with yourselves?  
  Recommended.
