i'm not really here to defend nebraska, (esp. being from ou),
but you can't really fault teams like nebraska for whomping other
teams.  sure, you've seen the scores, but have you seen the games?
it's not like nebraska has their first string out there the whole
game, trying to run up the score.  

case 1)
        when nebraska embarassed penn state the first game of the
	season, their third touchdown of the game (near the beginning
	of the second quarter) was from their 2nd strng q-back to
	their 3rd(!!) string tight-end.

case 2)
        did anyone see the nebraska/ucla game??  i saw the last 
	few minutes.  nebraska was up by about 30something points, 
	and trying NOT to score.  they had the ball on about the ucla 19,
	it was 4th and 9, so they RAN it.  their 4th string halfback
	(the announcers didn't even know his name) blasted around the end
	for a first down.  nebraska couldn't help but score, so on the
	last couple of plays they actually fell on the ball inside 
	the 5 yard line.

conclusion:

sometimes it is actually true, one team's bench can beat another team's
first string.  what is the coach supposed to do, gather his third
string offense around and say "ok guys, let's go sit on that ball for
the second half!!"? (which is exactly what osborne HAS done at times)  
it's hard for some teams (like nebraska, ou etc.) NOT to score at times.  
hell, i've seen some ou games where some starters come out the second 
half with their shoulder pads off.  sure, the scores look bad, but i 
don't think this kind of action (the second/third/...strings scoring) 
deserves criticism.

if nebraska kills ou 55 to 3 this year, and do it with their third/fourth
string, i'm not going to be down on nebraska, i'm going to be down
on the sooners
