This episode was the one with the Enterprise transporting the Medusan ambassador (The Medusans are a race that the mere viewing of their bodies causes insanity to humans). When Larry Marvik is exposed to the Medusan ambassador and subsequently becomes insane, he goes to Engineering and takes control of the Enterprise using the Auxiliary controls. On the bridge, this is noticed by Sulu and Chekhov. Sulu says "Captain, I don't believe it, but we are travelling at Warp 8.5 and still rising!". Later when the Enterprise is lost beyond the edge of the Galaxy (I don't understand why this would happen), Spock , in his analysis of the situation, says that the Enterprise entered a space-time continuum when its velocity exceeded Warp 9.5. How did Larry Marvik manage to get the Enterprise to move so fast???? Allen England at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Naperville, IL ihnp4!ihuxb!alle
