     Colin Ware, a graduate student of this department, will
     speak on ``Colour Perception.''

     ABSTRACT

     Basic question:  How does the brain extract information
     about  the  environment  from  the  structured array of
     light entering the eye?

     In providing a partial answer, particular emphasis will
     be  given  to  the  relationship  between  simultaneous
     colour contrast and colour constancy phenomena.   Also,
     the notion of ``cues'' for lightness and colour will be
     discussed.

     Where possible reference will be made  to  problems  of
     computer scene representation.
