We got things reconfigured a bit in anticipation of the arrival of the Emulex (which is what the Thursday downtime is all about): four of the DZs, and the Sanders DL, are now in a 9-slot backplane in the expander box (which is back on the system). When the Emulex is in production, the contents of that backplane will be decommissioned. There is now a nice substantial open space in the cpu box, and the cable slot is also much less crammed than it was. Note that the middle slot of the old 9-slot backplane has the DMA grant jumper cut, which we remembered after some hassle, and must have a Plessey DZ sitting in it (they have the jumper internally). We also took advantage of the downtime to do the recabling for the drive-A radial cable, and that's where the fun starts. New cable in and installed, and drive A is misbehaving the same way it did with the old cable. Very mysterious. Further efforts on this are very tentatively scheduled for Wednesday. -- Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
