If you're interested in older stuff, why not try women's
diaries, poems, and letters from Japan and France?
In both countries, women could become highly sophisticated
writers, though they were outside of the male cultural world.

Such sophistication was unusual in the English-speaking
world until the 1800's.

The diaries are interesting, and quite accessible; you
should be able to find paperbacks in a good bookstore.
