Many are set in the Bronx, if that whets your appetite. I never thought much of the Bronx before, but now I might want to go visit... "Criers and Kibitzers, Kibitzers and Criers" by Stanley Elkin. It's out in paperback. Perhaps I have the name backwards. Anyhow, I don't often like short stories but these were very good.
