Some people like Mr. Alan Driscoll seem to have a need to use words that are a bit overpowering for the matter at hand. In a comment directed at !rabbit!jj, Mr. Driscoll told him that jj's "logic is fucked." I didn't realize that people get so personally offended that they couldn't say jj's logic is messed up or crazy or whatever. I have found both jj's and Driscoll's letters entertaining but I think Alan is getting a little too colorful and graphic for me. Alan may wish to argue that the word he chose is not offensive. In fact, my former officemate at Bell Labs claimed that the word in question has, in fact, lost its meaning and is just an expression of exasperation. Perhaps, but my ears burn once in a while and that's not good for me. Really, if you have to use such language at first, then edit it out before you send your letters. I don't think it's really necessary. Derogatory language of any form tends to destroy any impression that you are knowledgable in what you are arguing since you make it appear you have to abuse your opponent to make a point. Alan, you may get mad at me for bringing this out in the open, but you chose to write in that manner so expect to get heat for it. Sufferin' Sucatash! Scott Pector
