Background information includes: <1>: This establishment did not so much as state "Proper Attire Req." on any of their full page ads when they were opened. Nor have they appeared in any ads since then (~ 2 months). <2>: The weather forecast was lows in the 40's. <3>: For the last month, the nightly lows have been around 70. <4>: Our yearly low is generally 30. (In other words ... my heaviest clothing will keep me warm only until Sept. in most of the country). <5>: The relative humidity was very high. (As in ... it felt like it was below freezing -- I've heard tourists from the snowbelt state that our 30's are like their teens due to the humidity). <6>: A brisk wind had been blowing earlier in the day. <7>: There was a walk of over 100 meters from my car to their door. <8>: Two women ahead of me (in fairly long dresses) were visiblily shaking due to the weather. <9>: I was also wearing: a new tweed jacket, a heavy white sweater, a white collared shirt, and swede shoes. <10>: Finally, I had just had a haircut 3 hours earlier. In other words, the *only* half-way reasonable complaint anyone could have about my appearance was the fact I was wearing (2 mo. old) blue jeans, and then I was wearing them because of the weather. Besides, with a large parking lot filled with cars, there would be too many people inside for anyone not standing beside me to see I was wearing jeans. I feel that while they have a right to set loose standards, they clearly overstepped the limits of propitiety in this case, and have written them a letter concerning this. I am wondering though, was this just a isolated case, or does this occur elsewhere in the country? Bruce Giles decvax!ucf-cs!giles (UUCP) UCF, Dept of Math, Orlando Fl 32816 (Snail)
