Message-ID: <475@dciem.UUCP> Date: Wed, 9-Nov-83 17:58:52 EST Article-I.D.: dciem.475 Posted: Wed Nov 9 17:58:52 1983 Date-Received: Wed, 16-Nov-83 09:27:20 EST Organization: D.C.I.E.M., Toronto, Canada Lines: 36 ================ It doesn't require you change your registration to Republican to realize the only opposition to the Soviet way of life is the American. And your right of vocal complaint and bitterness toward your own Government is obtained from that opposition. So kindly be aware of this opposition and note well who bought the rope you are hanging yourself with. ...!rlgvax!plunkett ================= Even in net.flame, this is a bit too much! This newsgroup goes outside the bounds of the USA, you know. If you really feel that the USA is the only place in the world that does not wish to be run from the Kremlin, I suggest you wrap your head in the Stars and Stripes and take a long walk on a short pier. As for joining the Republican party, I have known lots of Republicans who were not foaming-at-the-mouth chauvinists. Some of them even recognized that the US might have some interest in maintaining friendships with countries outside its borders. The kind of person who wrote this note could be ignored if he lived in San Marino or Luxembourg, perhaps, but it is terrifying to think that such as (s)he are voters in the most powerful country in the world. There are two complementary sayings: "Noblesse oblige" and "All power corrupts ...". In a way, they both say that when you have power, you've got to be damned careful about how you use it. Bullies lose friends, especially when they say "Do things my way or I will treat you as an enemy." I know, I know. Thugs like rlgvax!plunkett are in a minority on this net, but there seem to be quite a few whose thinking is in the same vein. They sure don't help the cause of real freedom! Martin Taylor
