However, people's attitudes towards crime are totally irrational anyway. A person who would drive and risk being one of the 50,000 people killed each year by car accidents but not walk the streets and risk being one of the only 22,000 homicides each year is totally illogical. Therefore, if a person is going to be irrational by being afraid of crime while taking other risks, why not take the risk of having a handgun in the house.
