First, the cost of mailing a letter is much less than the cost of distributing an article to the entire net. Thus something like the "missing socks" discussion probably consumed more resources than this letter has or is likely to. Second, the definition of "useful purpose" varies from person to person. At least the letter was a more original way to use up bandwidth than the socks discussion. (I don't have anything in particular against socks, mind you. That is just the particular discussion that chased me out of net.misc.) Third, as far as I know no site has ever been taken off the net for misbehavior and I would oppose any attempt to do so except under *extremely* serious circumstances. Fourth, the letter does *not* ask for money; it states "DO NOT SEND MONEY, FOR FAITH HAS NO PRICE. [emphasis in original]" Indeed, it is not clear where you would send money even if you wanted to. Therefore, laws against pyramid schemes and the like do not apply. I am posting this followup to net.flame, which is probably where the original article should have gone. Kenneth Almquist
