When the man returned home, he called his brother and inquired about his cat. His brother gave a very curt reply: He's dead!. The man was inconsolable, but after several days was able to talk again to his brother. During their conversation the man said, "You know, it would have been much kinder, if you had broken the news of my cat's death to me gently. You could have told me first that he was playing on the roof. Later you could have told me he fell off the roof and broke his leg. And then when I came to pick him up you could have told me that he passed away during the night. By the way, how is Mom?" The brother thought a moment before he gave his reply and then said, "She is playing on the roof."
