There's a big difference between stating objective facts and spreading malicious and damaging stereotypes as the BLKTRN article did. In fact if you cowardly, sniveling wimps who work there let the management there pull you off the net without a very large stink, you don't deserve to be part of this net. Maybe USENET isn't that important to them? You would give up your job for net access? And you think other sites will let you post racist articles? Let your fears gag you - let your safe little jobs blind you - let your self- imposed filters deafen you - be safe, little, snug vegetables in your local garden. If we lose you it will be no large loss. If we lose our freedom of communication it will be much worse. I think freedom of communication is the issue. I claim if you encourage irresponsible use of the net, it will lose most of its value and many sites will withdraw. Then you will have the freedom to talk, but there'll be no one to listen. I really don't see any other company on this net making such a stink about this. The management of the two largest news backbone sites (decvax and ucbvax) haven't said anything. Ucbvax is not a backbone site. I would be interested in hearing decvax's policy on this kind of thing. As far as I know, the only "management types" who have complained have come from two very minor sites on the net. Bell Labs is a minor site? the net. The only people who can do that are you. LONG LIVE THE FREE NET!!! Free as long as your employer is willing to pay for it. -- Phil Ngai (408) 988-7777 {ucbvax|decwrl|ihnp4|allegra}!amd70!phil
