I think that site foo talks to site bar, but I am wrong. I mail to decvax!foo!bar!somebody. This should bomb out. But decvax optimises its paths (thanks decvax) and decvax talks to site bar, so the mail gets sent to decvax!bar!somebody which works just great. Then somebody tries to send mail back to me. He tries foo!decvax!utcsstat!laura.Boom. It fails, because his site does not know anything about foo. Unless he knows that my mail only got to him courtesy of decvax magic, he may be at a loss to find out how to get to me. The problem is worse if he is mailing to: whiffle!griffle!mumble!umble!decvax!utcsstat!laura, because the magic updating could have taken place at any of those sites. Laura Creighton utcsstat!laura
