However, there is no indication that the Soviets would stop escalating if we did. After all, many of the US weapons developments (ICBM, asat and others) were developed IN RESPONSE to Soviet weapons research. I agree that it would be nice if we stopped our side of the arms escalation. However, I don't know of a realistic strategy to replace what we've been using. Can you suggest one?
