Over the years, I've heard many public figures indicate that spending a
dollar on the defence industries creates fewer jobs than spending that
dollar any other way.  Obviously the money does not disappear, but it
does appear that it is not used to best effect.  Certainly, the goods
placed in those silos are NOT being used to generate more income, as
new plant machinery would, for example.
