I ski the northern Sierra Nevada around the Lake Tahoe area most of the time. My favorite time to ski at a downhill resort is on a slow weekday or during a weekend with heavy snow and light wind (light enough to keep the lifts from closing). However, most of the time I do day trips in the backcountry. When I have more than a few days off at a time I like to do overnight trips but I find them difficult to organize because of schedule conflicts with the other people in the group. I can even be found in the tracks (ruts?) at a nordic center when I am introducing a beginner to cross country.
