Dunno about the second book in the *Black Easter* universe (or maybe
"time line" is the better phrase), but I recall that it is part of the
three-book set called "After Such Knowledge," which includes also
*Doctor Mirabilis* (a fictionalized biography of Roger Bacon) and *A
Case of Conscience* (about a planet of creatures such as are suggested
by some philosophers who discuss the problem of evil, which freely
choose the good).
