After that he has to start serving his suspension unless something else happens to delay that. The 20-game suspension rule came about just in recent years (maybe last year?) due to two incidences involving refs and players. In both incidences a ref was assaulted and the player received a small penalty, i.e. 3 game suspension and a monetary fine I think. If a player is determined to have INTENTIONALLY hurt or tried to hurt a ref, an immediate 20-gamer is slapped on him. Who decides? The ref. No appeal. Matt Noah
