They are looking for an inexpensive, portable industrial strength record player. Inexpensive means under $100, which probably means a used one. Portable means that they can carry it around easily, say something where the speakers fasten together or form the cover for the turntable/amplifier. Industrial strength means it can handle being bumped around when it is carried -- I'm sure everyone has seen those record players that the schools all use. It needs to have enough power to fill a 40 foot square room with 20-40 people in it. They found one, but it is an old mono tube unit which weighs a ton, and has a ceramic cartridge (shudder!), and sounds pretty bad. I told them I would try to find a better one before they waste their money on that monster-that-chews-rare-foreign-folk-music-records. Does anyone know where to find record players like this? Does anyone have one for sale? Does some company sell used equipment like this?
