All early reports were issued through DOD Censors. The Weapons Stockpile was photographed through a Fish-eye lens. We saw pictures only of (mute) "friendly natives", and never were told how many we killed (this is called "de-humanization"). We didn't hear the protests of the students who wanted to stay, only those who "kissed the ground". We didn't hear any witnesses of the recent violence or representatives of the NJM, we heard only from the deposed dictator Gairy, who claimed that he was loved by all Grenadans. And Kirkpatrick even tried to muzzle the Grenadan Ambassador to the UN. It is so easy to convince IGNORANT Americans that we trounced a terrible enemy by only telling half the story. I have known about Grenada for a long time, about the Dictator Gairy and his abuses from 74 to 79, about the peaceful revolution in 79, about its airport funded by Britain built by Cubans, and the social goals and gains of the New Jewel Movement. If you watch the news carefully, you will see retractions of all the pronouncements of Cuban armies trying to take over, of massive mountains of arms, of danger to American Citizens, of 100% glee at the invasion. But your opinions on Grenada were probably formed in the first 3 days after the invasion, and you probably never even heard of it before, so as the truth is slowly culled from official pronouncements you won't even notice it. I am serious about opposing the psychological, economic and military warfare waged against the third world, and my seriousness is informed by more information than that gleaned from headlines during times of high jingoism.
