I suppose that my use of the term ``ass'' in replying to an individual whom I felt guilty of wishful thinking (as you believe me guilty of credulity) WAS indeed improper. Were this not net.flame I would have refrained from this expression. In spite of the events and disclosures that have taken place since I posted the article, I believe that there was much in it to stand by. It is interesting that the more congressional leaders get to see Grenada and whatever documentation Mr Reagan has, the more they believe that our actions and continued military presence can be justified. As to the statement that we ought to stand by our friends when they come under attack, AND MAKE IT CLEAR TO THE WORLD AT LARGE THAT WE WILL DO SO, even to the extent of retribution, let me point your attention to the middle east. An Arab leader who, several years ago, gave US-sponsored peace mediation just a little more than lip service now finds himself beleagured and at the edge of defeat by radical elements. I do not know whether Syria's battle against Mr Arafat is backed directly by the USSR or only indirectly through the continued supply of that maniac-ruled nation (my opinion, sir) but Mr Arafat HAS been the target of extremists in the Arab camp for at least four years now. His crime? Moderation, encouraged by this nation (as well as others). And we cannot offer him any credible support, even though his plight can be traced to our actions. (Of course, if we had given Isreal carte-blanche and plenty of weapons, he wouldn't be around now either, but ...) BTW, a few letters are still trickling in from my poll. I will have to cut it off very soon, though. Mark Terribile hou5d!mat PS thanks for the flame. I was wondering if the article had even made it to the outside world.
