I'm afraid you have missed one crucial point.  The conservative does not
feel compelled to judge the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. by the same standards.
This should be clear to anyone who has been following the discussion in
this group.

Now at first glance that seemed like a strange thing to say.  I always
thought it was the *liberal* that did not feel compelled to judge the U.S.
and the U.S.S.R by the same standards.  But I see that you can make a case
for it either way.
