Yes, there are dress codes in other parts of the country. Here in the Met NY area there are thousands of places where dress codes are enforced. These codes seem to have a direct relationship to the prices on the menus. The higher the prices, the more formally the patron must be dressed. I have found this to generally be true wherever I have been. On the other hand, I once went to a resturant near Dallas where, if you entered with a tie on, the hostess promptly cut it off with a pair of shears. T. C. Wheeler WECo Piscataway P.S.
